Canon Pixma TR4500 Review
The Canon Pixma TR4500 is a printer with wireless support. It is a lightweight printer that is best suited for home use and has an affordable price. It has some great features, such as automatic two-sided printing, and print quality that's a little better than I'd normally expect from an inexpensive all-in-one.
I installed the Pixma TR4500 in my home office so I could test it for five hours and about five days for sharing. I've tried things like print speed and quality, photo print quality, scanning and copying capabilities, and ease of use. I was pleasantly surprised by the overall performance of this affordable printer, but not enough to recommend it to anyone other than easy to use at home.
Design: Oldschool interface and controls
The Pixma TR4500 doesn't look old-fashioned at all, but the interface and controls look. While many entry-level and mid-range inkjet printers are moving to large, color screens, the Pixma TR4500 has a small LCD screen and a variety of physical buttons. The screen is very rare and a bit difficult to read if you look at it at the wrong angle, but the large buttons are easy to spot, making this printer fairly easy to use.
The screen and control panel are on the top of the printer, making it easy to use when standing and looking down. Try using it while sitting in front of the printer, as there will be problems reading the screen due to the viewing angle problems mentioned above.
On the right side of the screen and in the control panel, you will find a pop-up panel that hides the automatic document feeder (ADF). Beneath it is an engraved pocket for storing documents as they are transferred through the ADF.
When the control panel and ADF are upside down, it is easy to clear the jam. If you need to scan a single document or something that is too thick or irregular to pass through the ADF, the standard flatbed scanner will also be displayed with the ADF upside down.
The front of the printer opens to display the paper cassette and the telescopic platform for capturing the documents being printed. Paper cassettes are easy to place on the front cover.
More access is possible by turning the plate behind the main cover. This allows you to install two ink cartridges and have access to the paper if you get stuck.
The back of the printer has a power cord connector, an Ethernet port, a USB port, and a wall jack that you can connect to use the fax features of the machine. It also has a quick release to remove the panel for additional access to jammed paper.
Installation process: theoretically easy, but I have problems
Setting up the Pixma TR4500 should be fairly straightforward. Start by safely installing two ink cartridges, one color and one black, and then close the front of the device. You can then set up the printer using Canon PRINT.
Everything should be pretty quick and easy, but I encountered a problem during setup when a paper size stuck and an error code occurred. It’s the same pile of paper I use for all the printer tests, and I’ve never had a printer that takes up so many pages.
When the printer stopped and stopped eating my paper, the process was less painful. I was able to set everything up and connect to Wi-Fi using the Canon app on my phone, then I could start printing.
Print quality: Great quality for entry-level printers
The PIXMA TR4520 performs very well in terms of print quality and produces results that are perfectly acceptable in a more professional office environment, as long as various restrictions do not preclude such use. When printing black-and-white text documents, the text is bright and clear, even when printing in extremely small fonts.
Mixed text and graphics look pretty good, including color graphics, especially considering it’s an entry-level all-in-one. Color reproduction on plain paper is quite pale, but good enough with very smooth gradients and lines.
Despite its low cost and dependence on a monochrome ink cartridge, the PIXMA TR4520 prints surprisingly high quality photo prints. I printed a variety of 4 x 6 inch and 8 x 10 inch photos, all of which were bright and uniform in color, beautifully rich in color and fine-tuned with fine detail. It doesn’t match the level of a decent photo printer, but it’s good enough for a versatile device in that price range. more: https://ijsetupcanon.com/ij-start-canon/
